Operation Clean Sweep


In 2022 Bowker signed up to the Operation Clean Sweep programme. The programme is an international initiative from the plastics industry to reduce plastic pellet loss to the environment. In the UK it is led by the British Plastics Federation.

The initiative’s aim is to ensure that the plastic pellets, flakes and powders that pass through manufacturing facilities in the UK are handled with the care they deserve and do not end up in our rivers or seas.

Road Haulage Association Diamond Haulier Award


In 2019 Bowker was awarded the RHA Diamond Haulier Award. This unique award, to mark the RHA’s 75th Anniversary, was given to an operator that has demonstrated professionalism, brand distinction and excellence as an employer.

Soil Association


All organic food and drink sold in the EU must meet the EU Organic Regulation. The Soil Association provide the framework & standards for the Organic accreditation. Bowker’s Organics status provides assurance that organic goods are stored, handled and distributed in line with comprehensive safety standards. Increasingly, many of our customers have organic product lines as demand in this market grows. The accreditation allows us to store, maintain and distribute goods within the food and drinks sector.

Members of The Hazchem Network


Bowker is a founding member of Hazchem, the UK’s only ADR/Hazardous pallet network. The Hazchem Network is made up of 60 members which include the leading independent names in UK chemical transport. Our membership allows for hazardous consignments to be distributed across the UK with maximum efficiency.

Committed to Responsible Care


Responsible Care is a global initiative and demonstrates the chemical industry’s commitment to continual improvement in health, safety, security and environmental performance. we follow the Guiding Principles of Responsible Care to ensure the safety, security and integrity of the chemical supply chain under our control. Our efforts in this global initiative have been recognised on several occasions. In 2008, Bowker became the first logistics company to win the “Overall Responsible Care Award” and have since repeated won the award since. We have also won the Responsible Care Logistics Company Award on several occasions.

Chemical Business Association


Bowker is a proud member of the Chemical Business Association (CBA). The Chemical Business Association represents the UK chemical supply chain - from distributors and traders to manufacturers and blenders as well as logistics and service providers. Neil Bowker is a member of the Chemical Business Association’s board.

The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)


Bowker is licenced by the MHRA – demonstrating consistently high levels of quality and supply chain security.

Our safe and secure storage facilities specifically designed for holding Health Care products, Medicine and pharmaceuticals are licenced by the MHRA (Medicine and Healthcare product Regulatory Agency).

Good distribution practice (GDP) requires that medicines are obtained from the licensed supply chain and are consistently stored, transported and handled under suitable conditions.

The Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH)


The term COMAH stands for Control of Major Accident Hazards. COMAH regulations ensure businesses implement all necessary procedures and measure to prevent major accidents involving dangerous substances. This set of regulations limit the consequences to the environment and people should any major accidents occur.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport to 30 provider


The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK is the membership organisation for United Kingdom professionals involved in the movement of goods and people, and their associated supply chains. It is a National Council of CILT International. Bowker have been recognised in the CILT’s Top 30 UK logistics service providers. Criteria included; annual reports, the European Commission, financial, human resource factors, performance and professional accreditation.

W. H. Bowker International were recognised for maintaining and strengthening the European service despite the unprecedented challenges the industry has faced this year.

Safety & Quality Assessment for Sustainability


SQAS is a third party assessment used to assess the performance of Logistics Service Providers & Distributors.

SQAS assessments cover sustainability in logistics, including quality, environmental, security, safety and Corporate Social Responsibility. SQAS an assessment system that provides a detailed factual assessment report. The reports allow companies to evaluate their logistics service providers according to their own standards and requirements. SQAS is a component of Responsible Care in logistics operations. Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, manages the SQAS system and ensures its integrity.

ISO 9001


ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Bowker use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide services that meet customer and regulatory requirements. Continuous improvement ensures our customers benefit by receiving services that meet and exceed requirements, delivering consistent performance.

The United Kingdom Warehousing Association


As the UK’s principal trade organisation for the warehousing industry with over 700 members, UKWA (United Kingdom Warehousing Association), provides essential advice and support to the industry as well as ensuring views are represented effectively to the government.

Neil Bowker, Commercial Director, was announced as Chair of the UKWA in 2021. Being part of the UKWA ensure Bowker are fully aware of the latest logistic advancements and change in legislation, protocol and best practice.

Shareholder members of Palletline


Bowker are proud members of Palletline, the UK’s only member-owned network and the original palletised freight distribution company. Created in 1992 the network operates through carefully selected members who work collaboratively to provide the best possible services to our customers.

Road Haulage Association


The RHA, established in 1945, is the UKs only trade body dedicated solely to the operators of commercial vehicles. The organisation responsible for campaigning, advice, training, information and business services for its members within the UK haulage industry. Bowker were one of the founding members of the association and in 2019 were awarded with the RHA Diamond Haulier Award.

Authorised Economic Operator


Bowker have Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status which is recognised globally - acknowledging Bowker’s procedures and fully complaint customs controls. AEO status demonstrates good International practice and that a haulier’s role within the international logistics supply chain is safe and secure.

Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme


Bowker are FORS Silver accredited. FORS stands for Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme and is a voluntary accreditation scheme for hauliers. The scheme aims to raise the level of quality within fleet operations, and to demonstrate which operators are achieving exemplary levels of best practice in safety, efficiency, and environmental protection.
